I've been looking around online for examples of SMART social media objectives , and haven't found any so I decided to make a stab at it myself. I'd love your feedback.
Here's the premise.
We have organizational goals that are derived from our mission. As a result of achieving this goal we will have good outcomes. Like this....
Goal:
Outcomes:
• We will increase our fundraising allowing us to better support our artists in their creative process.
The next step is the Objectives...These are the actual steps we will take to get to our goal. We make them SMART by making them - specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. Here are a few to get started....
Objectives:
- Find out what the public currently thinks about us and our artists.
- Learn who is talking about us and talking about the things important to us.
- Find out where ‘our’ audience is online.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with the thought influencers for our audience
- Engage in conversations with the public about us and our artists.
- Learn what our audience values and find ways to engage with them in a way that provides value and builds relationships.
Now making them SMART..... To do this, they may have to be broken down into smaller pieces so that they are realistic and time-based.
Smart Objectives:
- Find out what the public currently thinks about us and our artists by:
- Learning the basics of how to use tools and listening techniques in two weeks
- Identifying and subscribing to 5 blogs and search feeds that are related to our organizational interests in 1 week
- Identifying who in the organization will be listening to which topics, and how important listening results will be distributed internally
- Spend 30 minutes daily listening to and refining rss and search feeds.
- Learning the basics of how to use tools and listening techniques in two weeks
- Learn who is talking about us and talking about the things important to us.
- Explore simultaneously with objective 1 using same tools and methods.
- Create a continually evolving and prioritized list
- Explore simultaneously with objective 1 using same tools and methods.
- Find out where ‘our’ audience is online.
- We will survey our existing audience (within 6 weeks) to find out more about them and how they use the web.
- Through our listening initiative we will find out where the influencers are that are talking about our issues and to our (potential) audience
- We will explore various online networks and groups and begin to identify where we might begin to engage in conversations within 8 weeks.
- We will survey our existing audience (within 6 weeks) to find out more about them and how they use the web.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with the thought influencers for our audience
- We will decide our internal policy within 2 weeks about who and how we represent the organization to the public, and how we will deal with both positive and negative feedback.
- We will begin to post comments on blogs, and in groups by making a point to post comments of value at least 5 times per week.
- We will reflect on our engagement and begin to identify ways to add more value to the conversations.
- We will decide our internal policy within 2 weeks about who and how we represent the organization to the public, and how we will deal with both positive and negative feedback.
- Engage in conversations with the public about us and our artists.
- Learn what our audience values and find ways to engage with them in a way that provides value and builds relationships.
Do these make sense to you? How would you refine them?
Thanks
